2 Corinthians 4:3 (ESV)
“Even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing.”
The sun was out today. Yesterday, the sun was behind the clouds. Last summer, the sun was unseasonably hot. Ever noticed the way we blame the sun for the weather. The sun was the same yesterday as it was today, and as it will be tomorrow. In our lifespan, the sun does not change. The same can be said of the gospel. To some people the gospel of Jesus Christ is irrelevant. To others the gospel is confusing. And then to others the gospel is hard to understand. Ever notice the way we blame the gospel for our faith. Like the sun, the gospel does not change. In all eternity, the gospel will not change. That is what Paul is saying to the church. God intends the gospel to shine clearly. God does not veil the gospel. Those who do not believe have veiled the gospel. As I see it, our doubts, cynicism, and distrust are like clouds veiling the good news. Jesus said to the judgmental hypocrite, “First take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly.” (Matthew 7:5) The gospel of Jesus Christ is out today, bright shining as the sun. What do you see?
“Faith is to believe what we do not see, and the reward of this faith is to see what we believe.” Augustine
